Hello everyone. As Vince has stated on his website, these carbs are (maybe have been) the Achilles Heel of the Seca Turbo. What few Yamaha parts are remaining,
are extremely expensive. Some parts were not even made available (special butterfly seals for example) even when the carbs were new. I completely tore down a
spare set of carbs to identify, measure and source parts for rebuild kits (without using the few remaining Yamaha parts). I am currently starting to work with
a company to develop a Keyster rebuild kits for these bikes. This may not go anywhere, but I am looking into this. Depending on what quantities I commit to,
they are even willing to tool up for some parts that don't exist. I would be the sole retailer for these kits. Rebuild kits can have as few or as many
parts as I want. This is where you all come in. I am looking for feedback from as many of you as possible as to what you would like to see in the kits and what
makes sense. I was thinking of offering two levels of kits. One for basic rebuild (assuming your carbs are in fairly good shape) to replace all the o-rings and
the bowl gasket (not the idle mixture screw o-rings - suggest this for a major overhaul). This may include a fuel T with o-rings as well (the OEM was a one
piece butyl rubber - once it starts to go, it's no good and can't be fixed).
The major rebuild kit is where I would like the most feedback. Things like the needle jet and needle, rarely wears out (however...you may want this in the kit because you might NEED to replace one sometime down the road). What I would suggest in the kit (feel free to critique me) would be all the o-rings and fuel T as well as the following; Main jet, pilot jet, needle valve and seat with o-ring, bowl gasket, butterfly valve seals, butterfly valve screws, starter plunger dust cap, and idle mixture screw with washer and o-ring.
Some of the seperate parts I am going to see if they can supply would be; needle jet, needle valve, starter plunger, float/pin and slide diaphragms. So please give me your feedback and also if you are interested at this time in rebuild kits. The major kit, depending on what is in it, could cost in the range of $35 to $45 Canadian per carb. I would have a better idea the more this develops.
